Mother’s Day gifts are so hard to come up with. It’s hard to buy a gift for your Mom! I always like to make something I can DIY to make the gift a little more personal.

This adorable Mother’s Day Cricut flower pot gift is such an easy project to put together. The SVG is free to download and will work with your vinyl cutting machine. Once you open the SVG file from my printable library, right click the image and save it to your computer.

I’ve made some more fun gifts like this one for Mother’s Day if you want to check those out too! I have an adorable Mother’s Day Planter you can DIY that comes with a free printable tag, tips on how to arrange a flower pot for gift giving, or even a Mother’s Day candy bouquet you could make for Mom too!

How do you make this Cricut Mother’s Day flower pot gift?

Step 1: Gather your supplies.

You will need:

  • Free Mother’s Day Plant SVG File
  • Cricut (or similar vinyl cutting machine that uses SVG files)
  • Vinyl (avoid glitter or shimmer)
  • Transfer Tape
  • 4″ Flower Pot or Bigger
  • Vinyl Scraper
  • Weeding Tool
  • Plant

Step 2: Print out your SVG file onto vinyl.

Download the free Mother’s Day SVG on your computer or mobile device. Then upload it into your machine’s software.

This is what the file will look like when you print it off. Peel the excess vinyl from around the letters carefully and then move on to the next step.

After you remove the excess vinyl, this is what it will look like. The SVG size is 4″ x 4″ so keep that in mind when choosing a pot or flower container!

Step 3: Weed the vinyl cutout.

Weeding refers to the removal of small pieces of vinyl still between designs or letters that needs to be manually removed with a weeding tool. Remove all the circles from the O’s, A’s, P’s, and E’s.

When you’re finished weeding, your design will look like this.

Step 5: Apply transfer paper to the vinyl design.

Transfer tape is an awesome tool to make transferring your designs from the sheet you printed it on, to the object you want your design adhered to.

Cut out a small section of transfer tape just big enough to cover your vinyl design completely. Peel off the transfer tape, and place the sticky side down on top of the vinyl design.

Use the scraping tool with a heavy hand and swipe it on top of your vinyl design to get it to adhere to the transfer tape when you peel it back.

Carefully lift the transfer tape to ensure the letters stuck to the paper itself. If they did, peel slowly and make sure all the letters stuck.

If they did, you should have something that looks like the above picture. Be sure to lay the transfer tape side down, as the back of your vinyl will be sticky.

Pro Tip: If you notice a letter or symbol that isn’t sticking, lay the transfer tape back down, and wipe over the stuck symbol using the scraping tool again.

Step 6: Adhere the vinyl design to your flower pot.

Line up the design on your flower pot, and then smooth it onto the pot from one side to the other. Use the scraping tool to make sure the letters are firmly attached to the pot before any attempt to remove the transfer tape.

Slowly peel off the transfer tape, and this is what it will look like once you’re done! Super easy beginner project, and great for Mother’s Day gifts!

Step 7: Add a plant.

I was dumb and added my plant BEFORE I added my vinyl design to the pot. Don’t do this. Put the design on the empty pot, and add your plant after!

Add a flowering plant in Mom’s favorite color, or a fun leafy plant to your pot. Now your gift is ready to give to mom on Mother’s Day!
