Father’s Day is always such a hard holiday to find gift ideas for. Especially for Dads who may not be into tools, or fishing etc. We are a pretty geeky family, and LOVE superheroes!
I designed this DIY Father’s Day Superhero Shadowbox gift to be simple to put together, but to still be something you can be proud to give Dad and that he will be proud to put on display!
If you’re just here for the free printables, and don’t want to read the tips on printing and instructions on how to put these together below, then you can get those HERE.
How do you make a DIY Father’s Day Superhero Shadowbox?
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
You will need:
- Free Printable Father’s Day Superhero Shadowbox Sheet
- 8×8 Shadowbox
- Superhero Minifigure Set (I used these knockoffs from eBay and was really pleased at the price, shipping speed and quality. You will need Thor, Captain America, Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Wolverine, Iron Man, and Hulk.)
- Scissors
- Cardstock
- Hot Glue Gun
Step 2: Print out the background sheet.
These will print out one-to a sheet of regular paper. You absolutely need to print these out on cardstock paper so they don’t tear after you glue on the superhero minifigures.
Use a sharp pair of scissors and cut the background out on the black outline.
Pro Tip: These are sized specifically to fit in an 8×8 Shadowbox, so make sure you DO NOT click “fit to page” when printing.
Step 3: Assemble and glue on the superheroes.
Next, you will need to assemble the mini figures so you can glue them on the background sheet! Kids LOVE helping with this part.
Put a dot of glue on the flat back of each mini figure and then hold it down centered above their logo for about 30 seconds, or until dry.
Pro Tip: I took this picture before I tried putting it in the shadowbox. Do not include Thor’s hammer with him, as it makes him too tall and it will fall out in the shadowbox.
To get the capes on Thor, Batman, and Superman to line up evenly, just put a dot of hot glue on the back of them and press the cape down in the middle.
Step 4: Put the Father’s Day Superhero Shadowbox together.
Once your glue is COMPLETELY dry, you’re ready to transfer it to the shadowbox!
Remove the shadowbox backing, carefully place in the image you just put together, and then put the backing back on to put it all together! That’s it!
Here you can see the wording on each superhero up close, so you know what it will look like when it’s all put together.
Isn’t this DIY Father’s Day Superhero Shadowbox so fun?! I’m seriously in love with how it turned out!
