I love nothing more than making my own custom home decor. I love knowing that I can find something in the store, and then re-create it for myself with my own custom twist for a fraction of the cost.
These DIY Flannel Trees are one of the simplest DIY projects you can make this holiday season. Not only are they easy, but the final product doesn’t look like a homemade craft, and is something you’ll be proud to put in your home (or to sell or giveaway!)
How do you make DIY Flannel Trees?
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
You will need:
- Cardboard Cone Trees
- Flannel Fabric
- Rustic Metal Stars
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
Step 2: Cut your fabric in strips.
You will want to cut your flannel fabric into long strips (as long as the length of your fabric) and about 1 1/2″ – 2″ wide. You could even use old flannel shirts for this if you wanted.
Then start gluing at the bottom, allowing a little overlap that you will glue down later.
Step 3: Overlap the first layer.
Make a line of hot glue around the bottom, and then allow the fabric to overlap a bit as you begin to wrap toward the top.
This is what it will look like as you glue and wrap. Make sure to smooth down the fabric over the glue as you go. Only glue a few inches at a time so make sure the glue doesn’t dry.
Step 4: Finish wrapping the fabric.
Once you get to the top of the tree, cover the very top with fabric. Then trim the excess off, along with any random strings.
Then use a moderate amount of hot glue to glue on one of the metal rustic stars. I found mine on Amazon in a bag of a LOT, so you could use them to make several other coordinating pieces of decor if you wanted as well.
Mix up the fabric patterns or keep them the same. I love the red black and white trend currently and wanted to make some to match. I love how these DIY Flannel Trees came out!
