Doily Wall Art DIY

I’ve always thought that doilies were beautiful, but I didn’t know what to do with them until I made this DIY Doily Wall Art! It’s such a beautiful statement piece, and fits with so many decor themes!

I love finding doilies at yard sales and antique stores, but never really knew what to do with them until I made this doily wall art! It’s a great way to use all those precious pieces you find!

I made this one with the white and cream colored traditional doilies, but you could also use colorful ones, or even use fabric dye to dye the white ones.

How do you make doily wall art?

Step 1: Gather your supplies.

You will need:

• Doilies (enough to cover your canvas)
• Canvas (I used a 16″ x 24″)
• Acrylic Paint (optional)
• Hot Glue Gun
• Chiffon Flowers

Step 2: Arrange your doilies.

I started by painting my canvas a very light tan, so I had a neutral background to make the white of the doilies pop on the canvas. Wait until the paint is completely dry before placing any doilies on the canvas.

Next, you will need to arrange your doilies to see how they fit best on the canvas. I moved mine around several times, until I settles on this design.

Do all of your arranging without gluing ANYTHING. Also remember that doilies are naturally stretchy, so as you glue you will be able to stretch them some.

Step 3: Glue on the doilies.

I left all the doilies on the canvas like I arranged them as I started gluing. I used a hot glue gun and just would put small lines of hot glue under the edges of each doily to make sure they were firmly in place.

Let your doilies overlap slightly on the canvas as you glue. It creates dimension and ensures you don’t see gaps as you glue.

I also wanted to ensure my canvas edges were wrapped in the doilies when I made this DIY Doily Wall Art. So I made sure to put some of the doilies next to the edge and let them hang down a bit so I could wrap them over the edge.

After you’ve glued the edges on, use scissors to trim any extra doily pieces to make sure it will lay flat on the wall when you hang it.

Step 4: Add the flowers to your Doily Wall Art.

I didn’t want there to be a lot of extra space in the places a doily didn’t cover, so I used these cute chiffon flowers and glued them in the holes or on the edges.

I even added some to the corners just to add dimension and differentiation. Let everything dry for about 10 minutes before you display or hang.

This is how it looked when I was finished with it! I’m super happy with how it turned out, and it gave life to once discarded doilies!
