I’m 1000% on board with cheap and easy holiday crafts. This Glass Gem Christmas Tree DIY is exactly that!

There’s a ton of different color and size variations you could use with this Christmas craft, so choose what you like best.

I have a huge collection of tabletop Christmas trees I put on top of my big bookshelf in my living room each year. I have bottle brush trees, and even flannel trees (as well as a few more you can see at the bottom of this post.)

I have a LOT of Christmas DIY decor and DIY Christmas gift ideas if you want to check those out too!

How do you make this Glass Gem Christmas Tree DIY?

Step 1: Gather your supplies.

You will need:

  • Glass Gems (I used about two bags on a 12″ tree)
  • Cardboard Cone
  • Hot Glue Gun

Step 2: Glue on the glass gems.

I used a cardboard paper cone as the base for my Glass Gem Christmas Tree DIY. The color worked well as a base, and I knew the material would ensure the glass gems stuck well.

If you WANT to paint your base before you glue on the glass gems, I’d suggest using a cheap acrylic paint in a coordinating color with your gems.

Use a fun blend of gem colors, or make the whole tree one solid color. I found my gems at Walmart for just less than $1.00 a bag, but you can also get them at the dollar store.

I used about two bags of flat back marbles to make a 12″ tree.

Use hot glue to attach the glass gems to the base cone. Start at the bottom and make one row all the way around. Then move up to the next row and repeat.

Instead of making lines of glue, put a dot of glue on the back of each gem to ensure they stick best.

Once you get to the top of the tree, glue two gems, one on either side, of the top of the point. This will look nice and cover the point of the cone as well.

Outside of time, this is really a very easy Christmas craft! It only took me about 20 minutes to do a 12″ cone from start to finish.

These get heavy once they’re finished and feel very high-end! I’d love to do one with a painted base covered in glitter before adding the gems! And I just may do that!
