I am a big fan of making my own Christmas decor. Not only does it save me money, but I also get to customize whatever I want so it turns out how I want to.
The biggest challenge I run into is making sure my projects don’t turn out looking too “homemade” if you know what I mean. I’m actually super proud of how these Wood Slice Snowman Ornaments turned out!
How do you make a Wood Slice Snowman Ornament?
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
You will need:
- Wood Slice Ornaments (these are great and come pre-drilled with the twine)
- White Acrylic Paint
- Black Permanent Marker
- Snowman Hat
- Carrot Nose Button
- Paintbrush
- Hot Glue Gun
Step 2: Paint the wood slice.
Use a paintbrush and paint the front of the wood slice ornament white. You can use more than one coat if you want, but you don’t need to. I used a single coat of paint and it was fine.
I also used these wood slice ornaments to make adorable ornaments using a NAPKIN. It’s so easy and you won’t believe how neat they turn out.
What kind of paint did you use?
I used that cheap acrylic paint from Walmart that’s $0.50 a bottle. Works great and since I’m using these indoors I don’t need to seal it.
Step 3: Attach the hat.
I found the hats I wanted in the Walmart “mini-tree” section. They come three-to-a-bunch on these mini-tree toppers. They’re really adorable and were the perfect size for these Wood Slice Snowman Ornaments.
Use wire cutters to cut them off the tree pick, and then hot glue them onto your Wood Slice Snowman Ornament.
Step 4: Make the face for your Wood Slice Snowman Ornament
Use a black permanent marker and make the two eyes and mouth. I found these ADORABLE carrot nose buttons that work perfectly for this snowman ornament DIY and I’m super happy with it.
