I can’t decorate a cookie to be all fancy to save my life. I just can’t. Cakes and cookies elude me creatively. I really wish I could, especially at the holidays because I’m all about Christmas! When I found these 3D Christmas Cookie Cutters, I was so excited and knew I could make them amazing!
I used THESE cookie cutters to get this amazing effect, and a sugar cookie recipe that is simple and doesn’t change its shape and doesn’t need to be refrigerated. I am over-the-moon excited at how these 3D Christmas Cookies turned out!
How do you make 3D Christmas Cookies?
You will need:
3D Christmas Cookie Cutters
Brown Food Coloring (I used this one from Amazon, because brown is a SUPER hard color to find for food dye in stores)
Red Food Coloring
Green Food Coloring (these gels are best)
Green Cookie Frosting
White Cookie Frosting
Jumbo Rainbow Nonpareils
Clear Ice Sprinkles
Yellow Star Sprinkles
You may need to double this cookie recipe.
One thing you need to know is that this is a small batch sugar cookie recipe. It will only make enough dough to make a single 3D cookie from each design included in this set (there are four total) so if you need to make a lot of them, then you may need to double or triple or even quadruple the recipe.

Each of these cookie designs actually includes 2-4 cookie pieces, so you won’t need to make a dozen of these 3D Christmas Cookies because they’re a lot more “cookie” than traditional cookies are!
Be careful how you decorate these 3D Christmas Cookies!
Don’t decorate where the cookie pieces will slide together. Also, this method of dying the dough, as opposed to decorating with icing, is a much better method. I learned this the hard way. I did it so you guys didn’t have to. Just dye the dough, don’t try and use icing. It won’t work!

Make fancy cookies with this super simple 3D Christmas Cookies tutorial! Special cookie cutters make these so easy to make!
Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter. softened
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 Tablespoon mayonaisse
- 1/2 Tablespoon vanilla
- 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
- pinch of salt
- Red, green, and brown food dye (gel is best)
- White and green cookie icing.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350.
- Cream together the sugar and mayonaisse.
- Then add in the butter and mix.
- Then add in the butter, vanilla, and the egg and mix until combined.
- Next add in the four, baking powder, and salt and mix.
- Once it’s a crumbly dough, stop using a fork to mix, and start using your hands to combine it until it forms a nice cookie dough.
- Split the dough into three equal pieces and put in separate bowls.
- Add in the desired food coloring to each bowl and mix with your hands until the color is evenly dispersed into the dye.
- Sprinkle a surface with flour, and flour your rolling pin.
- Roll the dough out to about 1/4 thick and cut your cookie pieces out one at a time. The dough is soft, so transfer them to your greased cookie sheet carefully. If a detailed piece breaks off, just gently press the piece back together, and it will bake fine.
- Bake them at 350 for 6 minutes, then rotate your cookie sheet and cook for another 3 minutes.
- Remove them from the oven and leave them on the baking sheet to let the pan continue to cooke them while they cool for five minutes.
- After five minutes, move them to the cooling rack to let them finish cooling completely.
- Use the cookie icing to attach the details to each cookie. I added snow and ice crystal sprinkles to the runners of the sleigh, ornaments and a star for the Christmas tree, and an eye and a red nose for the reindeer.
Notes
Be careful how you decorate these cookies. Avoid areas where the pieces will slide together.
If you want to make more than one of each cookie type in this box, you will need to double or triple this recipe.
