Five-Minute DIY Tug-of-War Dog Toy
Dog toys can be expensive! Let’s face it, you basically run a gamble of them hating the toy and never playing with it, or them destroying it in 3.5 seconds when you buy them. Our solution is this super easy Five-Minute DIY Tug-of-War Dog Toy! It uses upcycled supplies, and can be made in about five minutes, and is tough so it holds up to even a large dog for quite a while!
The dog in the picture is Chase. He’s an Albino American Bulldog. He’s also deaf. He absolutely loves to destroy just about anything. These toys keep him entertained for a long time, and take him a lot longer to chew through than his leash! You only need a few supplies to make these, and they’re awesome to have on hand! They’d also make a good gift for a dog lover too!

You will need:
An old pair of jeans
An old t-shirt
A pair of scissors
Start by cutting the leg off the jeans at about the knee. Cut the hem and the seam up the side of the leg off too, to make the jean material easier to tie and use. An adult woman’s pair of jeans size 8 and up should make about 4 strips from one leg, from the knee down. If you’re making multiple, you can use the thigh portion, and the calf portion on each leg. Meaning you should get about 16 strips of jean per pair of pants.
Cut an old t-shirt into the same size strips as the jean. If you have a large dog, you can always skip the cotton and just do three strips of jean instead. We like the pop of color from the cotton, and it doesn’t chew the same as jean, so the dogs seem to enjoy it. As you can see, Chase could not WAIT for us to finish making one for him! He was so excited!
Use two strips of denim, and one strip of cotton, and line them al up together. Tie a knot at one end tightly. Really tug on it to make sure it’s tight, otherwise your dog will unravel it too easily. Then braid the three strands tightly (are you getting the importance of tightly here?) and then tie the end in a knot tightly.
Now you’re finished with your Five-Minute DIY Tug-of-War Dog Toy! That’s all it takes to make it. Now you can give it to your eager puppy and let them chew and tug all they want!
