The Jelly Bean Prayer has always been a part of Easter in some way or another every year for as long as I can remember. Something about pausing in the middle of your sugar feeding frenzy from your Easter basket and reading this simple poem that reminds us why we even have an Easter Sunday in the first place.
Much to my dismay, it was difficult to find a printable like I wanted that was still cute enough for me to be happy handing out, so I designed my own.
I figured I may as well share this Jelly Bean Prayer printable with you all too, so it’s available for download and free printing below!
If you’re just here for the free printables, and don’t want to read the tips on printing and instructions on how to put these together below, then you can get those HERE.
What is the Jelly Bean Prayer?
The Jelly Bean Prayer is a cute Easter poem that tells the true store of Resurrection Sunday by using the colors of the jelly beans. The poem itself goes like this:
Red is for the blood he gave, green is for the grass he made. Yellow is for the sun so bright, orange is for the edge of night. Black is for the sins we made, white is for the grace He gave. Purple is for the hour of sorrow, pink is for a new tomorrow. A bag full of jelly beans, colorful and sweet, is a prayer, is a promise, is an Easter treat!
The general idea is that you put the Jelly Bean Prayer along with one of each color of jelly bean in a little bag. This is a great way to introduce or remind kids of the resurrection story of Jesus!
How to Make the Jelly Bean Prayer Bags
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
Jelly Beans (Jelly Bird Eggs have the exact colors you need for the Jelly Bean Prayer)
3″ x 4″ bags (You can get them HERE on Amazon, or I found mine at Hobby Lobby)
Free Printable Jelly Bean Prayer (prints 4 to a page)
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun
Step 2: Print and cut the Jelly Bean Prayer printable labels.
Print your Jelly Bean Prayer printables on cardstock paper. If you print them on regular paper they will be too flimsy and will tear easily.
They print four labels to a sheet, so keep that in mind when printing.
Step 3: Add the jelly beans.
Place one jelly bean of each color from the Jelly Bean Prayer into the bags. Cut out the Jelly Bean Prayer printable tags and attach them to the top of the bags with a hot glue gun.
I just used a little glue on each side of the bag. Since there are so few jelly beans, you won’t need to worry about the bag needing to stay resealable once it’s been opened.
These little bags are perfect to hand out on their own, or to stick into Easter baskets as an Easter treat! My daughters and I made a few hundred of these to help a local ministry that gives out Easter baskets and basket filler to over 400 kids each year. It should be fun!
