I might be exaggerating a bit, but these are AMAZING donuts. Like melt in your mouth delicious. And they’re double chocolate which makes them even better in my book.

To make them festively Valentine themed, all you need to do is add some adorable Valentine Sprinkles and they’re perfect!

Valentine Donuts would also make a cute breakfast for your kids on Valentine’s Day. Since they’re so simple, it won’t take a lot of effort, but they’ll love the special treat.

This recipe just bakes these donuts in a donut pan (if you don’t have one you need to get THIS ONE from Amazon…it’s THE best!)

How do you make these Valentine Donuts?

Step 1: Gather your ingredients.

You will need:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • Chocolate Cake Frosting (warmed)

What kind of flour is best for donuts?

All-purpose flour is best for making donuts. You don’t want a self-rising flour, or your donuts will be too airy and won’t have the consistency you expect from a great donut.

How do you make donut icing?

Little tip. I don’t make my own icing. I like shortcuts, so that’s what this is. Buy a container of chocolate cake frosting.

To ice your donuts, just put the frosting in a microwave-safe bowl, and microwave it for thirty seconds.

Take it out and stir it. It will then be very thin and smooth. You can dip the top of your donut into the frosting this way, and it will have the perfect consistency for your Valentine donuts.

Be sure to put the sprinkles on pretty quickly after frosting so the frosting doesn’t dry and keep them from sticking. I love THESE sprinkles, and really like how mine turned out.

Tips for making Valentine Donuts:

  • Batter. Don’t overfill your donut pan with batter. They will rise some, so fill them about 2/3 full for big puffy donuts.
  • Sticking. Even with non-stick pans, I spray them to keep my donuts from sticking. I don’t want to have ruined donuts!
  • Frosting. Frost the side you take out of the pan to over any imperfections.
