Memorizing Bible verses is a great practice for Christians as we seek to write God’s word on our hearts and minds. These Bible verses are short enough for kids to memorize and are very powerful for everyone to remember each day. Grab the free printable cards and use them together!
As Christians, we work hard to see and trust God in every situation we face. Prayer is one way to do that, but another great way is to read and memorize His word! Here are some of my favorite verses that I’ve taught to my classroom students (at a Christian school) and to my own son over the years!
Best Bible Verses for Kids to Memorize
Whether you are memorizing Bible verses together as a family, or just helping your kids memorize verses on their own, this list is a great place to start!
I’ve also included a printable version of these Bible verses for you to use with your kids as flashcards! You can grab them at the end of the post.
But for now, here is a rundown of some great Bible verses to start memorizing! If you want them, here are my favorite tips for memorizing Bible verses.
1. John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
This verse is a cornerstone of Christian faith, emphasizing God’s love and the promise of eternal life.
2. Psalm 23:1
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
A comforting verse that reassures children of God’s constant care and provision.
3. Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
This empowering verse encourages kids to rely on Christ for strength in all circumstances.
4. Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
A valuable reminder for children to trust in God’s guidance.
5. Ephesians 6:1
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
This verse teaches kids the importance of obedience and respect for their parents.
6. Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
A powerful verse to instill courage and confidence in kids.
7. Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
This verse highlights the importance of God’s word in guiding one’s life.
8. Matthew 22:37-38
Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.
These verses reinforce the most important commandment straight from the mouth of Christ.
9. 1 Corinthians 10:31
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
This verse encourages kids to honor God in all their actions.
10. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
This verse encourages kids to maintain a joyful, prayerful, and thankful attitude in all situations.
11. Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; against such things there is no law.
A wonderful verse for children to learn about the qualities that reflect a Christ-like character.
12. Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
This verse reassures children that God has a good plan for those who love Him.
13. Psalm 56:3
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
Written by David, this first-person verse is a simple yet profound verse to remember in times of fear.
14. 1 John 4:19
We love because he first loved us.
This verse teaches kids about the foundation of love, rooted in God’s love for us.
15. James 1:19
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
A practical verse teaching children the value of patience and listening.
16. Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
This verse teaches about salvation through grace and faith, emphasizing it as a gift from God.
