This awesome DIY Mother’s Day superhero shadowbox is an awesome gift idea for the mom who loves all things superhero! This is made using LEGO minifigures, a free printable, and a shadowbox! It’s so easy to put together!

I’ll admit I’m a pretty big geek. I love to game with my kids, have a collection of board games big enough to fill a full size closet, and even had a cat named after a character on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. That being said, of course I’d design this awesome Mother’s Day superhero gift!
I made a similar Father’s Day Superhero Shadowbox that went over super well, and only thought it fair to make one for Moms too! I’ve also got an awesome Father’s Day Star Wars Superhero Shadowbox DIY, and a Harry Potter version coming soon!

How do you make this DIY Mother’s Day Superhero Shadowbox?
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
You will need:
- Free Printable Mother’s Day Superhero Shadowbox Background
- 8×8 Shadowbox (I found mine at Michael’s)
- LEGO Minifigures of Spider Gwen, Harley Quinn, Captain Marvel, Batgirl, Gamora, Wonder Woman, Scarlet Witch, and Black Widow
- Cardstock
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
Step 2: Print out the background.
Go here to get your free printable, download the pdf, and then print it on cardstock paper. DO NOT print this on regular paper, as it won’t hold up to the weight of the minifigures.
Cut it out along the black line.
Step 3: Put together your minifigures.
I got my LEGO minifigures on eBay (yes, most of them are knockoffs, but they’re much cheaper and look great for this project). You will need Spider Gwen, Harley Quinn, Captain Marvel, Batgirl, Gamora, Wonder Woman, Scarlet Witch, and Black Widow.
You will need to assemble them when they get there. Don’t have them hold any of their accessories, as they won’t fit well in the shadowbox. I did have to trim Batgirl’s ponytail off to make her lay flat on the background.
Step 4: Attach the minifigures to the background.
Use a hot glue gun to attach the LEGO minifigures to the background above their name. Use a good amount of glue, and make sure they’re all completely dry before moving to the next step.
Pro Tip: For the characters with capes, put a small dot of glue under the cape first to make it lay flat before gluing it to the background.
Step 5: Put it all together in the shadowbox.
Once your glue is completely dry, disassemble your shadowbox. Then place your background with the minifigures inside, and replace the backing on your shadowbox. Now your DIY Mother’s Day Superhero Shadowbox is all done and ready to gift to the superhero-loving Mom in your life!
