Father’s Day can be such a hard holiday to make DIY gifts for! My kids love making stuff for their Dad for Father’s Day, so I’m always trying to come up with ideas he would love that they can also help put together!

Last year we made a Father’s Day Superhero Shadowbox DIY that turned out SO awesome! It performed so well I made a Mother’s Day version of the Superhero Shadowbox too! I had someone request a Star Wars Shadowbox and a Harry Potter Shadowbox for Dad, so I created them both!

I’m super happy with how this turns out, and I can’t wait for you to make one too!

If you’re just here for the free printables, and don’t want to read the tips on printing and instructions on how to put these together below, then you can get those HERE.

How do you make this DIY Star Wars Father’s Day Shadowbox?

Step 1: Gather your supplies.

You will need:

  • Free Printable Star Wars Shadowbox Background
  • 8″x8″ Shadowbox
  • LEGO Minifigures (I used knock off versions from eBay)
  • Cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun

Step 2: Print out the Star Wars background.

When you print out the background, it will look like this. Make sure not to click “fit-to-page” in your printer settings, or it will print the wrong size.

Cut out the background along the outside of the black outline.

Pro Tip: Print this on cardstock paper instead of regular paper. Regular paper won’t be able to handle the weight of the LEGO Minifigures.

Step 3: Put the Star Wars LEGO Minifigures together.

When you order the LEGO Minifigures they will come with some assembly needed. I ordered mine from Ebay.

The Star Wars LEGO Minifigures you will need for this project are:

  • Luke
  • Yoda
  • Storm Trooper
  • Darth Vader
  • Han Solo
  • Obi-Wan
  • Chewbacca
  • C3-PO

Pro Tip: Don’t include any of the accessories the minifigures hold in their hands or they won’t fit in the shadowbox. I know the temptation to include the lightsabers is strong, but don’t do it.

Step 4: Attach the minifigures to the Star Wars background.

Once your background is cut out, and your minifigures are assembled, it’s time to put them together!

Use a hot glue gun to attach your minifigures above their names. Hold them in place for a few seconds before gluing the next one down.

Pro Tip: Put a small dot of glue under Darth Vader’s cape and glue it so it lays flat behind him before gluing it to the background.

Step 5: Put the assembled art in the shadowbox.

Remove the backing from the shadowbox. Place the background with the glued on minifigures face down into the shadowbox. Replace the backing and it’s ready to gift!
