DIY Mesh Pumpkin Wreath

Easily make your own DIY Mesh Pumpkin Wreath with this simple tutorial! It makes awesome fall home decor and is great all season long.

Mesh wreaths seem so complicated and difficult because they look so nice when they’re done! The truth is, they’re actually very easy to do, and you can absolutely make them yourself.

You can learn how to make a pumpkin wreath out of mesh with this simple tutorial, and then you can display it or sell it this fall! You can even use items from the dollar store (wire frame included!) if you want to make a cheaper version of this as well.

How do you make this DIY Mesh Pumpkin Wreath?

Step 1: Gather your supplies.

You will need:

• Wire Pumpkin Wreath Form (find at Hobby Lobby or the dollar store)
• 2 Rolls of 10″ Orange Deco Mesh
• 1 Roll of 10″ Green Deco Mesh
• Orange and Green Pipe Cleaners
• Rotary Cutter
• Cutting Mat
• Old Scissors or Wire Cutters

Step 2: Prep the pumpkin wreath frame.

To prep your wire pumpkin wreath frame, you need to attach 4,000 pipe cleaners. Okay, it’s not 4,000 but it feels like it!

I attached five green pipe cleaners to the stem section, by twisting them onto the frame.

Then I attached four orange pipe cleaners to every line on the pumpkin body section. Just twist them on. The pipe cleaners may wiggle a bit, but will hold firm once the mesh is attached.

Pro Tip: Use pipe cleaners that will match the mesh you’re attaching to the wreath. Use orange for the orange section, and green for the stem. This will keep the pipe cleaners from showing when the wreath is complete.

Step 3: Cut the mesh for the stem.

Anytime you’re cutting lengths of mesh for mesh wreaths, it’s best to use a rotary cutter and a cutting mat. It will take you less time and will keep your ends straight.

Cut 2-3 ten-inch pieces of green mesh for each green pipe cleaner. I did two for this one, since we are making a curly mesh pumpkin wreath, and the fullness was great.

If you’re using a thinner mesh (for instance, the mesh from the dollar store is only 6 inches wide) then you may want to go with three rolls for each pipe cleaner.

Step 4: Attach the green mesh to the stem.

Once all your green pieces are cut, it’s time to attach them to your wreath. I did the green section first, and then did the orange section after.

Roll your cut sections like this, and pinch them in the middle.

Use the pipe cleaners to attach the mesh to the wreath frame by twisting them a couple of time around the middle.

DO NOT PANIC. It will look weird and like you’re doing it wrong at first when you only have a few pieces attached, but trust the process. I promise it will start to fill in in no time.

Pro Tip: Change the direction the rolls face as you attach them to help fill in gaps and make your wreath look more full.

This is what it looked like after I was done adding two pieces of green to each green pipe cleaner.

Now it’s time to cut out the orange mesh.

Step 5: Cut out the orange mesh for the pumpkin mesh wreath.

Depending on the length of your rolls of mesh, you will likely need two rolls. I know I did! Cut out 2-3 ten-inch pieces of orange mesh for every orange pipe cleaner.

I ended up cutting about 65-70 pieces of mesh for this pumpkin wreath.

Step 6: Attach the orange mesh to the pumpkin wreath.

Just like you did with the green mesh, roll and pinch the mesh and attach it by twisting the orange pipe cleaners on the wreath frame.

Each pipe cleaner should have two or three mesh pieces on it. Make sure to fill any gaps or holes to fill it in so that your pumpkin mesh wreath is nice and full.

Step 7: Trim the pipe cleaners.

When you’re done attaching all the mesh, you can trim down the excess length on the pipe cleaners. Use an old pair of scissors or a pair of wire cutters to do this.

Trim them down to about a half an inch of excess length, and then bend and tuck that amount into the wreath.

When it’s finished it is ready to hang, and should look like the above wreath!

These are great to make and sell, if you like to do that! They don’t take a long time to make, and the supplies are pretty inexpensive. You could easily make this wreath for about $15 or less, even using pricier mesh from Hobby Lobby.
