How to make Grinch Hot Chocolate Bombs

Step 1: Gather your supplies.

You will need:

  • Free Printable Grinch Hot Chocolate Bombs Instructions Tags
  • Hot Chocolate Mix
  • Green Candy Melts
  • Light Green Candy Melts
  • Green Sprinkles (optional)
  • Large Heart Sprinkles
  • Cupcake Liners
  • Plastic Baggie (for drizzling)
  • Silicone Half-Sphere Mold
  • Baking Sheet
  • Clear Treat Bags
  • Curling Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Hole Punch
  • Cardstock

Step 2: Fill the molds with green melting candies.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt your dark green melting chocolates. Cook for a minute at a time in the microwave, stirring after each time, until they are a smooth consistency.

Place the silicone mold on a baking sheet, and use a spoon to line the molds with the green melting chocolate.

Place them in the freezer for 10 minutes, to allow them to harden.

Step 3: Remove them from the molds.

When they have hardened, remove them from the mold. Press from the bottom of the mold and peel them out.

Repeat the previous steps until you have the desired amount of halves you need to make your hot cocoa bombs.

Step 4: Flatten the edges.

To make your edges flat on your half-spheres, microwave a glass plate and rub the flat edge on the plate just until it’s smooth and even,

Pro Tip: Don’t rub for too long, or your half-spheres will become too shallow!

Step 5: Fill your hot chocolate bombs.

Fill half your hot chocolate bomb half-spheres with two tablespoons, or a single serving packet, of hot cocoa mix.

Then to add a little more green, add in a dash of green sprinkles on top of the hot chocolate mix.

Step 5: Put your Grinch Hot Chocolate Bombs together.

Re-heat your plate and rub the empty half-spheres on it to get the edges melty and press them gently on top of the filled half-spheres to seal them shut.

To make your Grinch Hot Chocolate Bombs pretty, you can add some light green drizzle to the tops.

Melt your light green melting candies like you did the dark green ones until smooth.

Use a drizzling spoon or do what I did, and spoon some into the corner of a small plastic baggie and snip a tiny corner off to drizzle over the top of the hot cocoa bombs.

Let them cool completely before packaging.

Step 8: Print and cut the Grinch Hot Chocolate Bombs tags.

If you’re giving these as a gift, I made these cute printable tags you can use to package them with that include the instructions on how to use them to make Grinch Hot Chocolate.

Print these tags out on cardstock paper and use a sharp pair of scissors to cut them out.

Use a hole punch to punch a hole in the corner of the tags.

Add your hot cocoa bombs to a cute Christmas cupcake liner. Then put them in a clear treat bag (I used cheap party favor bags from the party section at Walmart). Use curling ribbon to tie the bag and attach the tags.

How to use your Grinch Hot Chocolate Bombs

To make your fun green hot chocolate recipe, you only need your Grinch Hot Chocolate Bomb, warm milk, and a mug!

Heat 8 oz of milk to very hot, but not boiling, and pour it over your hot chocolate bomb in your mug of choice.

Use a spoon to stir until all the contents are dissolved into the liquid. Serve immediately for the best results!

These Grinch Hot Chocolate Bombs are best made when the bombs are at room temperature. If you try to keep them refrigerated and then use the milk to melt them, you likely won’t have good results.

Tips for making Amazing Grinch Hot Chocolate Bombs

  • Molds. Don’t get molds that are too big or too small. Molds that are too big won’t fit in mugs and crack easier. Too small and they won’t hold enough hot cocoa. I used these molds.
  • Chocolate. Don’t overheat the chocolate, it it will start to seize up.
  • Filling the Molds. Make sure you have an even coat of chocolate on the molds and that you brush all the way to the top of the edges.
  • Storage. Keep your hot chocolate bombs in a cool, dry place for the best results.

Ingredients

  • Dark Green Melting Chocolates
  • Light Green Melting Chocolates
  • Hot Chocolate Mix
  • Green Sprinkles
  • Red Heart Sprinkles

Instructions

    1. Melt the dark green melting chocolates in a microwave safe bowl in one minute increments, stirring each time between cooking, until the chocolate is melted smooth.
    2. Place the molds onto a baking sheet.
    3. Use a spoon to pour a spoonful of the mixture into the hot chocolate bomb molds. Use the spoon to spread it all the way to the top of the molds and to even the chocolate out.
    4. Place the baking sheet into the freezer for 10 minutes, or until firm, or in the fridge for 30 minutes, or until firm.
    5. After they’ve firmed, remove the green halves from the molds.
    6. To even up the edges of the half circles, microwave a glass plate and gently spin the edges of half of the halves you made on the plate until smooth.
    7. Fill one green half with a single packet of hot chocolate (or two tablespoons), and a pinch of green sprinkles.
    8. When half of your halves are filled, then you can add the tops to seal them. Microwave the plate again, then spin the unfilled half on the plate, and gently press it onto the filled half.
    9. Once all your spheres are made, you’re ready to decorate your hot cocoa bombs! Melt a small handful of your light green chocolates a minute at a time, stirring in between, until smooth.
    10. Pour the melted chocolates into the corner of a small plastic baggie. Cut a tiny edge off the corner of the baggie, and then use the baggie as a piping bag to pipe stripes of light green chocolate over the tops of your hot cocoa bombs.
    11. To finish them off, use a tiny dot of the melted light green chocolate to attach one red heart sprinkle onto the top of the Grinch hot chocolate bomb.
    12. Place your hot chocolate bombs into cute cupcake liners, and then into cellophane bags for giving. Use a twist tie to seal the cellophane bag, and then attach the Grinch Hot Chocolate Bombs printable instruction tags using a hole punch and curling ribbon.
    13. To heat and serve, place the hot cocoa bomb in a mug, and pour over 8 ounces, or one cup, of very hot (not boiling) milk and stir until the contents have dissolved. Add another heart sprinkle on top of the cup of green hot chocolate if the first dissolved, for the perfect cup of Grinch hot chocolate.
