Creative gift ideas are kind of my thing. I even have a whole Facebook group dedicated to Creative Gift Giving Ideas (you should join!). BUT I don’t always have the time or money for extravagant gifts – especially at Christmas time.

Enter this DIY Lifesaver Snowman Gift! This snowman jar gift costs about $3 to make and that’s IF you buy the hat like I did, and have to buy the mason jar and don’t just have one on hand.

If you like this easy neighbor gift idea, you should also check out my Elf Leg Oreos gift (so cute!), my Merry & Bright Gift idea (adorable hand towel and soap set!), or my Snowman Soap gift (so quick to make)!

How do you make this DIY Lifesaver Snowman Gift?

Step 1: Gather your supplies.

You will need:

  • Lifesaver Mints (found mine for $1 a bag at Dollar General!)
  • Mini Top Hat (or you can find them at Hobby Lobby)
  • Pint Mason Jar
  • (3) Black Buttons
  • Ribbon or Fabric for scarf
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors

Step 2: Fill the jar with lifesavers.

One of the bags I bought filled my pint-sized mason jar all the way to the top. I liked using Lifesavers because they don’t melt easily, are individually wrapped, and they’re delicious!

What if I don’t want to use Lifesavers?

No problem! Use something else! Some good ideas to use as alternatives to fill these Lifesaver Snowman gift jars are:

  • White Chocolate Pretzels
  • Peppermints
  • Hershey’s Kisses
  • Mini Candy Canes
  • White and Red M&M’s

Step 3: Tie on the scarf.

I used a scrap of flannel fabric I had to make the scarf. However, you could easily use ribbon if you wanted as well.

I tied it once around the band and it was plenty snug without hot glue.

If you’re concerned it will come untied, you can always add a dab of hot glue under the knot to hold it in place.

Step 4: Glue on the buttons.

I have a crazy big stash of vintage buttons because I buy them every time I see a big, cheap bundle at the antique store or yard sales.

I got in my stash and found three black buttons that were about the same size, and used them. You could also use new buttons if you don’t have a button stash like me!

Glue them down the front of the jar using hot glue.

Step 5: Attach the snowman’s hat.

These little hats I found on Amazon were the perfect size for a few projects I made this Christmas. They also have the same size hat at Hobby Lobby sold individually, but Amazon was so much more convenient.

I also used these hats to make these super simple and adorable Snowman Ornaments (they’re my favorite from this season!)

Put a ring of hot glue around the top of the mason jar lid, and press the hat down on top of it.

Hold the hat in place for about thirty seconds to let the glue dry some before letting go.

And that’s it! That’s all you need to make this adorable DIY Lifesaver Snowman Gift!
