It can be tough to know what to get your Dad for Father’s Day. I wish I had the budget of Bill Gates so I could get him what he deserves, but alas I don’t, so I have to get creative.
All the men in my life love jerky, so I wanted to come up with a fun way to give jerky as a gift for Father’s Day, without just handing them a gift bag full of it (which is lame, and I’m not all about the lame gifts.) This Jerky Gift Basket is what I came up with, and uses this cute printable sign you can get HERE.

How do you make a DIY Father’s Day Jerky Gift Basket?
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
You will need:
- Free Printable Jerky Gift Basket Sign
- Small Wooden Crate
- Floral Foam
- Paper Shred
- Bamboo Skewers
- Hot Glue Gun
- Jerky (differently shaped packages work best – read below for more tips)
Step 2: Attach the foam to the crate.
Use hot glue to attach your floral foam to the bottom of the wooden crate. I used two small blocks I got at Walmart, and just hot glued them next to each other in the middle of the wooden crate.
I used the smallest size wooden crate Walmart sells, which was like 4″ tall and 12″ wide, but you could use any small wooden crate (like this one on Amazon), or even a galvanized container like I used for the video tutorial, to achieve the same look.
Keep in mind that the printable sign, if you plan on using it, is 4″ tall and 6″ wide.
Step 3: Add the paper shred.
The cheapest place to find paper shred is at the dollar store. You can also buy it at Hobby Lobby, Mardel, Michael’s, Amazon etc, but it will be more expensive there.
Use a whole bag and fill the wooden crate with the paper shred to cover the floral foam. Tuck it around the edges of the floral foam too, since you can see through the wooden slats on the crate.
Step 4: Attach the wooden skewers to the jerky.
Use hot glue to attach bamboo skewer sticks to the back of your jerky. I used two sticks for a bigger bag like this, and just one stick for all the other pieces of jerky in the Jerky Gift Basket.
Hot glue the skewers for almost the whole length of the package to give it as much stability as possible. Let them dry completely before arranging it in your jerky gift basket.
Step 5: Print the sign.
Print out the free printable Jerky Gift Basket sign to add to the crate. Print these on cardstock and not just regular paper. They print two to a page, so in case you need more than one, or mess one of them up, you have another.
Step 6: Attach the sign to the crate.
I used hot glue to attach my sign to the front of the wooden crate. The saying is cheesy, but all the best dad jokes are – and when is a dad joke more appropriate than on Father’s Day?!
Step 6: Arrange the jerky in the Jerky Gift Basket.
Arrange the jerky with the biggest and tallest packages in the back, and work your way forward with smaller pieces. I put the bigger bag in the back, and fanned out some taller pieces around it. Then I added the smaller pieces as filler in the front and I like how it turned out!
The beauty of using the floral foam and bamboo skewers is that if you don’t like how it looks, you can move things around.

Pro Tip: Odd numbers of things arrange more pleasing to the eye than even numbers do, so keep that in mind as you arrange.
