I have given my fair share of Mother’s Day Candles over the years. Candles are a great gift idea, and buying a scent you know she will love makes it even more special. These printable candle labels take ordinary store-bought candles and turn them into special, personalized gifts just for your Mama.
How to make Mother’s Day Candles
You will need:
Candle of your choice (for best results, use a candles less than 15″ around, and in a smooth, round container)
Free printable Mother’s Day candle labels (print these on 11×17 paper or you’ll be sad!)
Scissors
Tape
The first thing you will need to do is buy a candle (or more if you have multiple moms, grandmas etc in your life).
I suggest buying one that is less than 15″ around, as that’s the length of the candle labels.
Try not to get a candle that is tapered, because it makes it difficult to get the label on evenly (learned this the hard way). Candles in glass containers are best.
Pro Tip: Print these Mother’s Day Candle Labels on 11×17 paper, or you’ll be sad. They will be incorrect if printed on regular paper.
As you can see from the picture of the printed labels above, there are 4 different candle label designs. Every Mom is different and so I made multiple designs to fit multiple personality types.
I am more of a vibrant person, so the brighter colors and designs would be my pick. However, most of my friends like more neutral tones, and would prefer the muted colors better.
Cut the labels out, and trim them to the length of the candle (leave about an inch of overlap for the label).
Tape one side of the label to the candle itself, and the other side to the other side of the label. Kids can even help cut the labels out and tape them to the candles.
Why should you make your own Mother’s Day Candles?
Make it Personal
Have you ever heard that quote, “Buying Mother’s Day gifts is tough when your Mom deserves the world, but you can only afford a candle.” It’s so true, isn’t it? What do you give the women who gave up so much for you?
How do you find a gift to express how much you love and appreciate everything your mom has done for you, or find a gift your kids can give their Mom?
It’s no secret that getting something Mom can use, but that the kids picked out themselves, or helped make is the perfect gift combination.
Knowing your little girl smelled 27 candles, and found a scent she thought you would LOVE and cut a label out herself to make it a special gift is enough to make the heart of any mom melt.
Stay on Budget
Budgets can also be tough. It’s hard when you have multiple kids who all want to get a gift for Mom, and you need to get a gift for your mom, and your husband needs one for his Mom, and maybe you buy for grandmas too. That can get expensive quick!

You can get good size candles like the ones I pictured for $4 at Walmart, or for a dollar at the dollar store. Those kinds of things matter to Mom. It’s not the “thing”, and it’s not the amount of money spent.
It’s why moms cherish flowers picked from the yard given by dirty, chubby fingers. It’s why we hold on to pictures scribbled by marker. It’s why we keep the rock given to us by a kid with a smiling face because it has a “sparkly spot” on it.
Those things may seem silly, but they matter to us. Don’t just get her a candle, let them help, show you made an effort to involve them and to make the gift meaningful and special.
