While browsing the Walmart seasonal aisle for Easter candy, I saw a Brach’s Gigantic Gummy Bunny. It was so neat! But, it was $4.00. And I’m cheap. And I thought to myself, I could make my own DIY Giant Gummy Bunny! So I did! It’s one of the easiest things I’ve ever made without a recipe, and I’m so glad I did! It smells and tastes delicious, and it turned out perfect the first time I put it in a mold!

You can use whatever mold you want, but I found THIS ONE on Amazon, and it was the perfect size for what I wanted. Honestly, you could use this recipe for any large size mold, but since I had Easter on the mind and I wanted to make a copycat DIY Giant Gummy Bunny, I needed a bunny. The mold was the only expensive part, but now that I have it I can make several, or make them every year if I want.

It’s a nice alternative to chocolate bunnies, which typically get wasted in my house. Everyone is too busy eating Reese’s Eggs to care about the chocolate bunny (did you see our Reese’s Egg Cake post?! That thing is awesome!!!)

You will need:

1 packet unflavored gelatin
1 packet of kool-aid (your choice. We used blue raspberry, and it was awesome)
1/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup water
Giant bunny candy mold

Spray your candy mold with non-stick spray. You can probably skip this step, but I’m always terrified of leaving it without the non-stick spray. In a small pot, bring the water to boil. Once it’s reached a boil, quickly whisk in the gelatin. Then whisk in the Kool-Aid and the sugar. Make sure everything is mixed well and dissolved. Carefully pour the mixture into your bunny mold until it’s full.

Transport your DIY Giant Gummy Bunny to the fridge (really, it’s best if you put your bunny mold in a baking dish or on a baking sheet before you fill the mold, but I never remember that part and just have to hold my breath until it’s safely in the fridge.) Let it refrigerate, untouched, for 2-4 hours. Remove the bunny from the fridge and let it sit for thirty minutes before you try to remove it from the mold. When you’re ready to remove it, just flip it upside down over a plate, and it should just slip right out!

The longer you leave your DIY Giant Gummy Bunny out in the open, the more tough he will become. Pat him down gently with a paper towel, and then place him in a tupperware container, or wrap him in plastic wrap, or a plastic baggy until your ready to serve or eat. If you children (or husband/significant other) sees the bunny before you’re ready for him to be eaten, he most likely will get eaten anyway. Not that I’m speaking from experience or anything.
